A dream is like a dream

The story begins with the dying Fifth Patient in a hospital room in Taipei in the year 2000. He suffers from a strange illness, a fever that will not stop, and is on the verge of death. This sense of "exhaustion" of his mental and physical strength, unable to escape his fate, drives him on a journey from Taipei to Paris and then to Shanghai. As the story unfolds, the Fifth Patient surprisingly finds himself closely connected to Gu Xianglan, a prostitute in Shanghai in the 1930s. The Fifth Patient, Gu Xianglan, the Count, Jiang Hong... the lives of these people intertwine, and like truth and fantasy, the story continues.
