本書は、唐の天宝十四年を舞台とした歴史物語です。下級官吏の李善徳は、長安での祝宴に間に合うよう南方・嶺南から新鮮なライチを運ぶ任務を命じられます。ライチは非常に傷みやすく、長い旅はまるで不可能な挑戦のよう。しかし彼は家族と誇りを胸に、一歩ずつ困難に立ち向かっていきます。その姿は、時代の大きなうねりの中で揺れる人間の意志と責任を鮮烈に描きます。

The Lychee Road is set in the 14th year of the Tianbao era during the Tang Dynasty. Li Shande, a low-ranking official, is tasked with delivering fresh lychees from southern Lingnan to the capital Chang’an in time for the imperial celebration. Lychees spoil quickly, and the long journey—over mountains and rivers—seems nearly impossible. Despite the odds, Li pushes forward for his family’s well-being and his own pride. Through his struggle and perseverance, this story reveals human resilience and the weight of responsibility against the backdrop of a grand historical era.
